Car Insurance Sterling (Car Insurance). Can't pay for my impounded car bill? Can't pay for my impounded car bill? I live in the state of Virginia and about 6 months ago I had a single car accident (lost control and got out of the road) and my car was impounded. I did not have the money to pay to get it out and the car was a total lost so I left it there. 6 months later I get a bill from a Collection Agency stating that I owe $2800 for the towing and storage fees. I can not pay that amount and I need to know if I don't pay the bill what will the consequences be...Will that be put on my credit report? Will it have any effects on my Drivers License? Will I be able to get tags from the DMV on the future? I appreciate the help. It's already on your credit report if you are hearing from a collection agency. If you had immediately contacted the towing company when the bill was smaller, you might have been able to work out a deal where you signed the title over to them and settled the bill. Obviously you waited 6 months and allowed the secure daily storage charges to continue to go up. And I'm sure the tow company didn't just turn it over to the collection agency without attempting to contact you first, probably by certified mail, to resolve the problem. It could indeed have an effect on your ability to drive, depending on what the court finds when you are sued for non payment. So now, the tow company is out of the picture. Contact the collection agency and see what you can work ut to pay them the $2,800 you owe them. You will be sued and liens placed on whatever they can prove you own. Credit report will take a big hit also. The DMV has no interest in the problem and it will not affect getting a license, unless you have not paid court ordered fines. Sterling . Radiator Water LeakA radiator water leak, or more properly, coolant leak, is a minor problem that can cause major damage. Repairing a radiator leak is important to prevent further damage that can be difficult and expensive to repair. Causes Radiators leak for a number of reasons, but primarily due to internal corrosion or physical damage. As a radiator corrodes, the normal vibration and movement that a radiator experiences can cause a leak. Physical damage from a collision can easily rupture the thin metal used in the radiator. Problems A leaking radiator can cause a number of problems for an engine. The resulting low level of coolant may cause an engine to overheat which can result in a cracked head, blown head gasket or other internal engine problems. A low level of coolant may also cause water pump failure as the pump is lubricated by the coolant. Repair Small leaks in a radiator may be fixed by adding a radiator leak sealant to the coolant. However, these additive sealants often only result in a temporary fix. Small radiator leaks can be permanently fixed by brazing, soldering, or the use of an epoxy glue designed for this purpose. It is often best to replace radiators that have major damage or severe corrosion.
Sterling . How to Calculate an Engine's BTUsA British thermal unit, or BTU, is a unit of energy defined as the heat required to raise the temperature of 1 pound of water by 1 degree Fahrenheit. To calculate the BTU of an engine, you would convert the horsepower rating of the engine. Horsepower, or hp, is a variation of the energy measurement that measures the amount of work performed over time. To calculate an equivalent BTU measurement, you would express the conversion from hp as BTU per unit of time, usually minute or hour. Difficulty:Moderately Easy Instructions Step by Step : 1 Locate the engine's horsepower rating. This is almost always listed in a car's brochure or specification list. 2 Multiply the horsepower rating by 42.44 to convert to BTUs per minute. As an example, if your car was rated as 250 hp, you would multiply 250 times 42.44, which equals 10,610 BTUs per minute. 3 Multiply the BTUs per minute by 60 to convert to BTUs per hour. In the example, 10,610 times 60 would give you 636,600 BTUs per hour. *have to be able to rotate a rear wheel or remove rear brake drums to inspect the brakes. In such a case, make sure that the front wheels are blocked securely, preferably with chocks designed for the purpose. (Chocks are available at a low cost at auto supply stores, and they stow neatly in the trunk.) 1 Q Part I: Getting Started. Once you've observed the safety precautions just listed, follow these steps: 1. If you're going to remove a wheel to change a tire or check your brakes, remove the hubcap (if there is one) and loosen the lug nuts before you jack up the car. Once the car is jacked up, the wheel will turn freely, which makes getting a hubcap off harder and makes starting the nuts almost impossible. Instructions for removing a hubcap and loosening lug nuts are in the next section, "How to Change a Tire." 119

Place the jack under the part of the vehicle that it should contact when raised. If you are using jack stands, place them near the jack. Where you place your jack depends on whether you're planning to do a one-wheel job, such as tire changing or brake checking, or a two-wheel, whole-end repair job. To find out the proper place to position the jack for your particular vehicle, check your owner's manual. If you have no manual, ask the service department at your dealership to show you the proper place, or follow these rules: Never place the jack so that the weight of the vehicle rests on something that can bend, break, or give. If your manual is incomprehensible or lacks this kind of information, try to place the jack so that it touches either the car frame or the big bar that supports the front wheel suspension. You can also place jacks near the rear-wheel axle. Until you become more proficient at this, I'd stick to jacking up one wheel at a time. It may mean more work, but the practice is good for you. 3. lift the vehicle by using the jack. How you accomplish this depends on the type of jack you're using (see Figure 1-1): • If you have a hydraulic jack, place the handle into the appropriate location and pump up and down. Use nice, even strokes, taking the jack handle from its lowest to its highest point on each stroke to cut down on the labor involved. • If you have a tripod jack, turn the crank. Raise the stands until they are high enough to just fit under, and lock them in place. Lower the jack until the car is resting on the jack stands. Then remove the jack. Substituting boxes, stones, or bricks for jack stands is very dangerous. They can slip out or break while you're under the car. A jack can do the same thing, so if you're going to work under your car (and you will if you plan to change your own oil and do your own lube jobs), be sure to buy a pair of jack stands. The money you save by getting under there yourself will pay for the stands in Sterling . Can you get your money back if the used car has something wrong with it as soon as you leave the lot?
